The Commission for Women of Bossier City is seeking applications from high school senior girls for its 2025-26 mentoring program, which furthers its mission to empower young women.

Bossier Parish high school seniors are paired with Commissioners to develop their leadership skills, participate in team building and learn about etiquette, government, quality of life and much more. Mentees will also have the opportunity to apply for scholarships at the end of the year.
The deadline for applications to be turned in to high school senior counselors is noon on Friday, August 22.

Plain Dealing High School is proud to welcome Katherine Roberts to the faculty as the new high school science teacher for the 2025–2026 school year.
Ms. Roberts brings a unique blend of academic, professional, and coaching experience to the classroom. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Business Management and has a strong background in healthcare. Most recently, she served as a physical education teacher and tennis coach at Providence Classical Academy, where she found joy in helping students grow both academically and personally.
Originally from McKenzie Bridge, Oregon—a picturesque town nestled in the Cascade Mountains—Ms. Roberts says Plain Dealing reminds her of home. “I’m eagerly looking forward to becoming an integral part of this wonderful community,” she shared. “My aim is to create a fun and supportive learning environment where students can explore biology and ignite their curiosity.”
Outside the classroom, Ms. Roberts is an avid tennis player and brings her enthusiasm for health and science into every aspect of her teaching. She is excited to begin a new chapter at Plain Dealing High School, where she hopes to inspire students to explore the natural world and develop a lifelong passion for learning.
Principal Jason Edwards shared his excitement about the new addition to the team: “Ms. Roberts brings a fresh perspective and a genuine passion for student growth. Her diverse background and enthusiasm for science will be a tremendous asset to our students and our school community. We are thrilled to welcome her to the Lion family.”
